In April 2020 Communicate-ed ran a webinar concerning ‘DRA3/ART2’ which, with donations and our match funding, enabled us to give almost £4,000 to a charitable fund to help feed NHS workers. Thank you.
Following the success of this initiative we ran another webinar in June 2020 on ‘Assessing for Access Arrangements via a video link’.
This time we donated all the proceeds of the webinar to the Links International COVID-19 relief fund, to help those affected by the pandemic in developing countries around the world. Communicate-ed ’ Match Funded’ every contribution made by delegates to double the total. Links works with local NGOs ‘on the ground’ to make sure that donations are turned into supplies for the communities for which they are intended.
Caroline Read, our senior course tutor, was in Malawi in March 2020 running small business training for rural communities when the lockdown started, and had to cut her trip short in order to get back before borders were closed and flights cancelled.
Caroline explains:
“We are very concerned for our friends in rural communities in Malawi. Most live in huts made of mud, with a corrugated iron or sometimes grass roof. Life is very ‘hand to mouth’. People get up in the morning, work during the day and buy food for that evening with what they have earned. There is no electricity, or the funds to buy food for more than a day at a time. Hunger is far more of a danger when people are unable to work than catching the virus. Before the COVID-19 situation there was already wide spread food shortages due to changed weather patterns.”
Every penny paid for the webinar will be doubled and donated to the Links COVID 19 fund and will help local Malawian families with food and supplies to help them through these difficult times.
